Have you ever wanted to drive on a real rally stage?
The Shamrock Haulage RD Cup, held as part of the 2026 Lazer Rally of the Bay, provides a unique opportunity for competitors to experience the excitement of rallying on closed forest roads without needing a fully prepared rally car.
Using the first four special stages of the event, the RD Cup is run as a Rally Regularity competition. Open to road-registered vehicles that meet the event’s safety requirements, the competition is designed to introduce newcomers to the sport while also providing an enjoyable challenge for experienced competitors.
Unlike traditional rallying, where the fastest crew wins, Rally Regularity is all about precision and teamwork. Competitors use a roadbook to navigate the course and attempt to match a target time set by the organisers for each special stage.
The scoring system rewards accuracy. Crews receive penalty points based on how close they are to the target time, with the lowest overall score winning the event. To ensure a fair and enjoyable competition, target times are based on average speeds of no more than 70 km/h, with some stages potentially set at lower averages depending on conditions.
The RD Cup is an ideal next step for competitors who have participated in Khanacross, Rallysprints, or other grassroots motorsport events and are looking to experience the challenge of navigating and driving on closed rally roads. It is also a great opportunity for enthusiasts who have always wanted to see what rallying is all about.
With competitors tackling the same roads as the main rally field, the Shamrock Haulage RD Cup offers a genuine rally experience in a controlled and accessible format.
The 2026 Lazer Rally of the Bay will be held on Saturday 25th July 2026 in Batemans Bay, NSW.
